Ants can be very annoying guests especially when they decide to share your house with you. While most ants are fairly harmless, some can bite and some can cause property damage. The tasteless black ant or sugar ant is relatively inoffensive while Carpenter ants can do similar structural damage to a construction like a termite can. If ants have invaded your home the first step is to decide what type of ant it is and where they are hiding. If you are dealing with a typical sugar ant then you don't have to worry about them damaging the wood buildings of your home, you just need to locate the nest and fabricate a solid game plan for wiping them out.

A good way to locate the nest is to keep an eye out for "scout" ants. These are the lone rangers sent from the colony to find food and anything they can use to build their colony. See where he goes and what he does, maybe even throw him a small crumb so he can head back to camp which will lead you right to the nest. Once you've discovered the nest it's time to setup some bait traps to get rid of them once and for all.

The queen is responsible for production more ants and killing her will put an end to the increase of the colony and all that's left is letting the rest of the employee ants eat the bait. Within a few days, the ants will be dead and your ant infestation should be taken care of. Regularly the queen is deep down within the colon however you will spot her by noticing her much larger size than the rest of the other ants. If you see her, eliminate her immediately to avoid the colony doubling.
